A Quick Dog Crate Mat

As we got ready to welcome Cassie home on Friday night, we visited the pet store to get a few things. Cassie has been crate trained, and when we first met her she would continually go into her crate, and the foster mom said that is was her “safe place”. In order to make her tranistion easy, we decided that we would get her a crate that she could go to in case she was overwhelmed and wanted to be by herself for a while. We picked out the crate, but then when looking for a crate pad, we were a little appaled that they were about $30. I decided I could easily whip one of them up and therefore saved us a pretty penny.

I had some fabric already cut up from a previous quilt project, so it was just a matter of picking out which fabrics would go on which side of the mat (I made it double sided), and then sewing them together (pillow style) and stuffing the mat with some extra thick batting.

The mat is nice and plush, but it isn’t too bulky or taking up too much room in the crate.

Here is Cassie with it!
