Quick Wire Jewelry Tutorial

I love to make my own jewlery, and recently whipped up this guy. When I wear my handmade creations, people always ask how I make the wire “cage” around the beads. It is a fun and easy technique that looks cool, and works for a variety of objects (stones, beads, rocks, ect).

The materials needed: Jewlery tools, wire (I use Zebra Wire(R)), beads.

First you cut a piece of wire. For these beads I used about 2.5″ – 3″ piece of wire.

With the long nosed pliers it is time to start twisting one side of the wire into a spiral shape.

Once half the wire has been twisted, start from the other end of the wire and do the same, making sure to wind the wire the opposite way than the other side.

You now have two spirals that connect. Bend the two spirals around the bead, and pull the wire so it encases the bead. This is one of the harder parts to do well – make sure to take your time!

Repeat until you have encased all of the beads.

Once satisfied, use the pliers to take the top loop and stick it out to create a loop that can be used to attach loop the beads together.

Voila!
