The fiancé and I decided to go tux rental shopping tonight (instead of painting the bathroom cabinets). On the way to the shop, I was pretty confident that this was going to be a straight forward ordeal. I love men, especially my man, in formal wear, so I figured this would be a simple straight forward excursion. We get a traditional tux, maybe a pop of silver on the groomsmen (my wedding colors are blue and silver) and voila! we are done. Turns out that tuxes are much more complicated things, and there are options. LOTS of options. The man at the store somehow made me feel silly because I couldn’t tell him if my dress was white or ivory (it is honestly dancing the line of the two) and had the fiancé convinced that a white vest and tie was much more stylish than the traditional white shirt with black everything else. Needless to say my head started spinning, so we ordered the tuxes with the assurance that we could change our minds on the colors up to two weeks before the big day. I left the store determined to do my tux homework (I am a little embarrassed that I didn’t do this before the fitting) so I could figure out what exactly is the right outfit for the fiancé. Here are some options that I found:
This is the look (with a simpler jacket) that the sales person was trying to entice us with. I just don’t see this as being the fiancé’s style…
Haha. I just rolled around for about 30 seconds laughing at the vision of the fiancé wearing this on our wedding day. It reminds me of what my prom date in high school wore. Except he had a top hat and cane…..
Ok, now we are getting somewhere. This definitly looks classic to me, which is the look I have been going for throughout the wedding. The only thing wrong with this look is the bow tie. The fiancé wants to wear a tie.
A good compromise? If the fiancé still has his heart set on the white vest and tie (the salesman is REALLY good at his job) I can see this being a middle ground. But I am still currently holding out for the black tie/black vest look!

Tell me… what type of tux do you prefer to see your men in? (or men – what type of tux do you like to wear?)

I’m wearing black (43L), white wing collar shirt with silver buttons (moms idea), cummerbund (most likely) with non-pleated pants and a black bowtie. Upon writing this and understanding the mercury will be hitting 100 today, I long for shorts and a tee shirt.
I love it! You are going to look so handsome.
And yes even though I love this weather – here is to hoping that August 4th isn’t as hot as it is going to be today. Otherwise everyone in formal wear will be very uncomfortable! (good thing it is an indoor reception!)
