Can’t Win Them All.

Last night I (finally) painted the second coat on the bathroom cabinets. I was so excited to post my how to today, with all the pictures that I have taken along the way. All I needed was to wait for the cabinets to dry and planned to take the final pictures this morning. When I went into the bathroom this morning, I was admiring my handy work, and put the drawers back into place. That’s when I realized I had missed a rather large spot. I had been thinking it would be covered by the drawers, but it was most definitely NOT covered by anything. See?

bummer. At least the rest of it looks really good! (ps. what looks like black paint on the floor in this image, to the left of the cabinet, is really just paper towels that I used to clean up some paint!)

An up close shot of my mistake.

Basically this isn’t the end of the world. I will paint this strip and THEN take the final pictures (once I have also reattached the hardware onto the door and drawers). Look for an indepth post about all of this on Monday!

In the meantime, have a great weekend! What are you all up to? (I think that you can guess what I am up to!)

Big Changes

In response to a few questions I got about yesterday’s post, and more specifically what good news prompted the fiancé to get me flowers, let me elaborate. Amongst all the turmoil that comes with getting a new house and planning a wedding, I got a new job! I know that I rarely talk about my day job here, and I won’t go into too much detail, but here is a bit of the backstory. I have worked in some capacity at the same company for what seems like forever. I started working there after school/ in the summers during high school, and they kept letting me come back. When I graduated college, they offered me a full time job, which I took after I chickened out and didn’t move to California like I thought I was going to.

I love the company that I currently work for. I love the fact that I have had the opportunity to work with my mom, one of my uncles, and a few of my aunts. I have been trusted with projects, been given a lot of responsibility, and feel 100% at ease in the office. Frankly, it would be the easy thing to just stay put and keep chugging along. But I am finally ready to “cut the cord” and start out on my own adventure. In a way, this is my first “big girl” job, where I don’t know anyone, am starting out on my own, and don’t know exactly the way the the company functions. It is a little bit scary, very exciting, and especially fun since the dress code is not as lax (I can wear jeans every day to my current job) so I have actually had an excuse to buy some new work clothes.

So here is to new adventures!

Next week is my last week at the offices. It feels so weird!

A Few Happy Things

This week has been a busy one for sure. Getting married isn’t easy, and as the wedding creeps up (38 days!) we are getting busier. Last night my mom and I dedicated some time to the finer points of a wedding reception, and made some good progress. This (obviously) means that I didn’t get to the bathroom cabinets again. Oh well… it will happen :)

Anyway, in the business of life here are a few of the happy things that have happened lately.

Wedding invites packed and sent out!

The fiancé and Brian did a little work on the outside of the house. I love the old fashioned plow on the right.

Getting into good habits by cutting up tomatoes and onion for sandwich making in the morning the night before.

Surprise flowers from the fiancé after I heard some exciting news on Friday! He’s the best. :)

(PS. because my mom pointed out that other assumptions might be made…. I got the flowers because of the new job I got and accepted!)

Bathroom cabinets in progress

Ok, so my big plans of finishing the bathroom cabinets last night got postponed. I had something very important to do. No really, I did. I mean, playing Wii Mario Kart is important… right?

Last night I did have every intention of putting the final coat of black paint on the cabinets, so I could show off the finished product today. The fiancé and I got distracted, and since both of us were home early, we decided that spending some time together (our bathroom project is a 1 person job, since the space is so tight, and the door needs to be kept shut to keep Ringo from getting all painty). So we went food shopping, had a mini race outside (he won.) and then decided to amp up our competitive natures and play some Mario Kart (thanks to my awesome parents who stopped by with the Wii controllers we failed to bring with us when we moved out of their house).

Ringo also decided to slack off, and true to his nature decided to hang out with some water. :)

But, since  I can’t show you the finished product quite yet, let me show you the in progress shots as a sneak peak! (I will give the whole how-to run down once the job is done!)

This is the before picture, just so you can get the idea of the transformation.

After the first coat of paint. Looking good!

A close up on the drawers. You can see that another coat of paint is needed for sure, but it is coming along great!

An Update on Ringo

Have I mentioned that we have a water cat? Ringo LOVES water more than anything. If he sees us heading towards a sink he literally jumps into it and sits there until you turn the water on. Then he plays, drinks, and soaks himself until the water is turned off. It is adorable. Ringo also won’t eat anything but fish flavored food. Anything from shrimp to tuna he gobbles up, but he won’t touch anything close to chicken or other meat.

With the weather being so hot lately (I LOVE it!) Ringo has been very interested in taking his mini baths as often as possible. Since it is pretty warm in the house we have been indulging him more often than usual and he had been one happy cat.
