Bedroom in Progress

Our bedroom is quickly becoming one of my favorite rooms in the house. The cool green walls paired with the white that we have throughout creates such a peaceful atmosphere that I feel like relaxing every time I enter the space. Although this room is far from being complete, I am excited to show you how it is looking at the moment. Last night, the fiancé and I finished putting together my drawers and brought his drawers over from where they were stored at my parents house. With the addition of the 3 sets of drawers (we got me two smaller drawers, since at they were ons sale at Ikea and too good to pass up at $50 a pop) the room is looking awesome, and not at all cluttered. Here are some pictures!

This is the view from the doorway leading into the room. It is so inviting!

This bench was a great find from Marshalls. It has french writing on it, and makes a perfect accent in the room.

Once you walk into the bedroom, this is your view to the right. The little nook is eventually going to be my little vanity section. The black desk is going to be painted white, and I plan on having a chair or stool there to sit on.

This is the view from the bed. The two white sets of drawers are mine, and as I mentioned, they were a steal from Ikea. The three pieces of art are collection pieces from Sarah Symes. They are made from fabric and are absolutely stunning (they are my favorite art pieces that I own). I will be hanging them above the drawers.

Here is the view from the right of the bed. We have a night stand that will be eventually painted white, and then to the left is the fiancé’s set of manly black drawers. I love the contrast that the black has with the rest of the room.

A better view of the drawers. Opposite the drawers is a large, double door closet that is the fiancés. My closet is in the other bedroom for now, although we have a very long and deep closet next to our bedroom that I have some big plans for (but that also needs a lot of TLC before it would be ready.

And that concludes the bedroom tour! I think that I am going to post a mini video of the room soon, just so you can get a better feel for the way it is laid out.

Hope you have a great weekend!

Cleaning the Fireplace Bricks

When we first got the house, one of the most noticeable things about the living room was how dirty the fireplace was. The red brick was almost a chalky white color it had so much build up. After we painted the living room, and before we moved in the furniture, I decided that we needed to do something about the soot. I searched for information on how to clean a fireplace, and came up with this tutorial. We didn’t go the extra step and use the Trisodium Phosphate, but instead just stuck with making a mixture of dishwashing detergent and baking soda then slathering it all over the bricks. Once it was dry, it turned into this powder that was gray (it seemingly sucked the soot deep from within the bricks) which we scrubbed off with a bit of water. The transformation really was something – it looks a million times better now!

Although I don’t have a before picture (sorry – we were just so anxious to begin!), you can see how dirty the back of the fire place was in this image – it was this dirty all over where I was scrubbing in the mixture of dish soap and baking soda.

You can see how sooty the dried mixture was, as the fiancé began to clean off the powder. It looks white in this image, but the powder was actually gray.

Although it isn’t perfect (we have to do another round) it looks a million times better already. We can actually see the different shades of red poking through, instead of one gray blob of a fireplace.

Wedding Hair Inspiration

Although I am not sure how I am going to wear my hair, I do know that it involves my hair being longer than it is now. I am trying to take very good care of my tresses so that they are long enough to do anything with when the big day gets here. so far, here are a few of my thoughts on hair style (can you tell I want to wear my hair down?).

The Living Room (a Work in Progress)

Ever since painting the living room with the “vintage grey” paint, I have been excited to see how the room is going to come together. Although I am still a long way off from having this room set, with the items that are already in the room, it is easy to see that it is going to be a great room.

We took a trip to Ikea on Sunday and picked up a few things, this TV stand included.

At Ikea we also got a matching white chair to go with the white couch I already owned (It is from Ikea as well). Down the line we have to make another Ikea trip to get the footstool that goes with the chair. These pieces of furniture are super comfortable, especially after a month or so once they are broken in a bit.

On the other side of the living room is the chair that I reupholstered. It looks a little lonely right now, but someday soon it will have a side table next to it. The fiancé and I just need to find one that we like. Also notice how great the light fixtures that the fiancé installed look!

Here is an upclose picture of the chair and the hutch behind it. The hutch came with the dining room table that we were gifted from my Aunt and Uncle (they moved and no longer needed it). I think that it makes the room – so excited that it fits so well!! (Sorry about the shine – the lighting wasn’t great when I took the pictures.)

Here is a shot of the fireplace. It has cleaned up pretty well (I will have a tutorial on how we did that soon). I purchased the candle holders – which will eventually have candles on them – from One Kings Lane. I Love how they look on the mantle!

We still have a lot of empty space in the room, waiting to be decorated. Here are some of our pictures that are sitting on the living room floor waiting to find a permanent home!

Hope you enjoyed this mini tour! Like I said, we still have a long ways to go. The big purchase that we are waiting for is the coffee table. Both the fiancé and I are holding out in hopes we can find a good (and large) trunk to use as a coffee table. We have been looking for one everywhere we go, and I hope our searching will pay off soon!

Move in Day #1

This past Saturday we finally started moving in! Our new bed was delivered at the ripe time of 7:15 am, and we started moving things into the house then.

I was giddy when that truck pulled up – moving day was finally here!

I was equally excited when I realized that the king sized bed we ordered looked perfect in our room! (more pictures of the bedroom work in progress later this week!)

Then it was time to start moving in everything else. My parents came to help us and they made it a million times easier. Here is a picture of the fiancé bringing in the chair that I reupholstered.

In this picture my Dad and the fiancé putting the chair back together.

Here is a sneak peek at how awesome the chair looks in the living room. (more on this later in the week!)

We love the dining room table that was passed on to us from my aunt and uncle. It really makes the dining area.

I wasn’t sure what I was going to do with this little nook that sits in the hall between the kitchen and the living room, but it started to come together as we moved items into the house. It is a long way from being finished, but now I have some ideas on how I am going to make it functional and fun.

I will show each room in a little more detail over the week, although none of the rooms are going to be finished for a long while. But as everything is being moved into the house, I can see it slowly starting to resemble the home that I have envisioned for the fiancé and I. We are both so excited to finally get into the house!
